Our Story
We’ve all looked at our own or a loved one’s health data and thought, “What do I do with this now?”

Log in to any health app, and you’ll see your resting heart rate, sleep score, readiness score, activity score, steps, HRV, and stress. We’ve been told that more data leads to a deeper view into our health. But instead of understanding why our breathing rate is higher, our HRV is lower, and why we never wake up feeling refreshed, we’re left looking at numbers that don’t mean anything real.
When everything is measured, but nothing is contextualized, we’re confused, not enlightened. And the real issue is not the data; it’s the lack of clarity.
Health is Personal
For Qoluna’s co-founders, Valerie Kogan and Alex Gikher, this confusion around health data wasn’t theoretical, it was something they experienced.
Valerie watched people she loved navigate Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, and strokes. These conditions didn’t just affect their health but also prevented them from communicating what was happening inside their bodies. In those moments, data was abundant. Doctors had lab test results. There were MRIs, PET scans, wearable motion sensors, and CT scans. But none of it could tell how Valerie’s family actually felt over time, or how their condition was changing day by day.
That disconnect leaves patients, caregivers, and even clinicians guessing. And when you’re responsible for someone else’s care, uncertainty isn’t just frustrating. It’s heavy.
While Alex’s path started differently, it led him to the same realization. He saw wearable technology exploding and recognized both the opportunity and the flaw. If we can measure what’s happening in the body, we’ll understand it better. But tracking data and understanding it are not the same thing. Most tools collected data, but very few lacked contextual intelligence. They didn’t help people make sense of their data in a way that actually improved their lives.
Both Valerie and Alex felt the same about health: We aren’t lacking data. We lack the clarity to make sense of it all.
Data Snapshots vs. Long-Term Health
Our health is dynamic. It shifts constantly based on stress, sleep, activity, rest, nutrition, and everything else we interact with day by day, but most systems only see snapshots. Without this context to recognize patterns over time, no amount of data, no matter the accuracy, will tell us what’s happening, why it’s happening, and what to do next.
This is where people and caregivers feel the health data gap. Without that longitudinal view, it’s difficult to answer the questions that actually matter:
Why do I feel different this week than last week?
What changed?
What helped?
What didn’t?
What should I do differently tomorrow?
These aren’t questions that can be answered with a single data point. They require context, history, and clarity.
Where Qoluna Answers the Health Data Gap
Qoluna was created to make the health data we collect understandable and actionable.
It helps people see their health as a journey, not a snapshot. It turns data points into science-backed insights and gentle action steps. It gives both individuals and caregivers a clearer sense of what’s happening in their body, what it means, and what to do next.
Because when you understand your health, everything changes. Decisions become clearer, conversations with doctors become more meaningful, and care becomes more confident.
